Eating with your fingers in a restaurant: whatever next!

Etiquette experts Debrett’s today released a ten point guide to dining in the modern age.

The Daily Mail published the guide online today, which says that it’s now acceptable to eat using your fingers when dining in restaurants:

Now it's OK to eat with your hands: Etiquette experts say it's acceptable in restaurants (but don't lick your fingers clean) | Mail Online

We’re not sure we agree with the tenth point which states, ‘never use your phone at the table.’

When you’re eating with us, please go ahead and use your phones to snap photos for Instagram, update your friends on Twitter, check-in on Foursquare and let us know what you think of your Steak & Co. meal on Facebook. Whew!

What’s the best drink to go with steak?

What do you drink with your steak?

You may have heard the old adage, “red wine with red meat, white wine with white meat”, but who says you have to stick to the rules?

There’s no need to be a wine expert to conjure up a great pairing between what you eat for dinner and what you drink to accompany it. Go with what you feel like drinking, but if you want a guide, here’s a few helpful hints that you may find useful next time you dine:
Steak and Co London Red Wine
  • Red wine is the traditional favourite to drink alongside a meaty steak. Drink a full-bodied red wine with steak if you’re enjoying yours cooked without too many adornments – sauce, butter, etc. The properties of the red wine will help to get the best out of your steak without interfering with the flavour.
  • It’s all about balance. A good tip to remember is that red wine tannins + red meat protein = heavenly taste. The fatty protein in the meat helps balance the sharper tannins, making for a perfectly balanced meal. So, if your steak is on the fattier side, your wine should be full-bodied, and if your steak is lean, then go for something a little lighter.
  • White wines can work with steak too, and a nice dry wine can really make the rich taste of a sizzling steak sing. A nice rosé can also help strike a good balance.
  • Beer and steak? It’s a no-brainer. Sometimes there’s nothing better than washing down a big t-bone steak with a frothy pint of ale or lager. For a more relaxed take on dinner, this is a great option.
  • Don’t drink? The sweetness and fizz of a soft drink can also be a great accompaniment to your meal, as can a refreshing mineral water or fruit juice.
At Steak & Co., we’ve put together an extensive wine and drinks list, with a tipple to tickle every tastebud and budget.

International Food Photography Day at Steak & Co.

Last week, November 14 saw the very first International Food Photography Day.

Established to celebrate and promote food photography, in all its forms (including camera phones!), International Food Photography Day saw people submit their images of their latest culinary creation, or the scrumptious food served for then at their favourite local restaurant, not just in London, but all over the world.

In honour of you food-snappers, we’ve set up an Instagram account (the method of choice for budding food photographers!) and hope that you follow us for mouth-watering pics of our latest menu additions.

In addition to this, we checked out our Foursquare account for photos our customers had used to ‘check in’ with, and there are some really great photos!

We’re always keen to see more, so check in next time you’re dining with us at one of our restaurants and share your photo on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Foursquare.
